11.22.63 Is One Of Stephen King's Most Underrated Recent Adaptations. The Show Never Got Mainstream Attention. From a production standpoint, it avoided the common pitfalls of King adaptations: Faithfulness to tone — It captured the “what if history could be changed?” suspense without drifting into camp. Pacing — At 8 episodes, it had breathing room to develop characters, unlike the rushed two-hour TV movie model. Casting — James Franco was unexpectedly well-suited for the role, and Chris Cooper nailed the mentor figure.
Sarah Gadon in 11.22.63. By tapping into the emotional reserves of the doomed, bittersweet love story of Jake and Sadie, the miniseries effectively sidesteps the time-travel hokum of the finale that nearly unravels the entirety of the story.
