Review of Netflix Original Horror, thriller "Midnight Mass" directed and written by Mike Flanagan. So, after quite a hiatus, I finally resumed Flanagan’s constant reign of horror, and very unlikely I found myself shocked with frustration. Now, I understand the series was released in 2021, and having any critical opinion now makes no sense. However, on the contrary, I find this to be the right time, devoid of any social prejudice. (Who am I kidding, I just ran out of stuff to write).
420 minutes ‧ NR ‧ 2021. Brian Tallerico. September 24, 2021. 5 min read. Mike Flanagan’s “Midnight Mass” sees the talented writer/director move from adapting Stephen King to crafting a project that feels so distinctly like one of the horror master’s works that even fans will wonder how they missed its book release. With elements of The Stand, The Shining, and Salem’s Lot, Flanagan’s study of religion and immortality sometimes rekindles memories of actual midnight masses in that it can be a little exhausting in its preachiness with a few too many monologues.
