In order to finally get that long-awaited promotion, Heinz Hellmich, an old white man, has to show his "wokest" side at work. When he invites his superiors to a private dinner at his home, his family's politically correct façade quickly begins to crumble and the evening takes a hair-raising turn.
Movie Challenge 2025: 104 Years in 52 Weeks: Movie #25 out of 104 Satirical comedy in which Jan Josef Liefers plays an old white man who desperately tries to behave in a politically correct manner, but repeatedly puts his foot in his mouth. Verhoeven's film is really extremely funny in places, but it also makes the mistake of trivializing its subject too much in many moments and thus repeatedly runs the risk of achieving exactly the opposite of what it actually wants to achieve. At the end of the day, it's about communication, clearing up misunderstandings and, above all, tolerance
The title made me nervous. The title and first 15-20 minutes made me worry this would just be an old white man complaining about how you can't say anything anymore. Some jokes, especially early on, definitely missed the mark and made me cringe, but the movie, like its main character Heinz, goes on a surprising journey of self-reflection.
