With Damian McCarthy’s fresh and unique approach behind the camera and the amazing Adam Scott bringing his talent to the lead role, ‘Hokum’ is shaping up to be something truly special.ScreenRant's Mae Abdulbaki praised the film in her review, awarding the paranormal thriller a score of 8 out 10, writing "the horror film is so good at making us feel like we’re holding our breath the entire time, only releasing it when the credits roll."
Hokum's Damien McCarthy, whose modest breakout came in 2024 with the extremely well-reviewed Irish horror film Oddity, has a modest filmography so far, but the two features he produced before Hokum rely more on slow burn and haunting atmospheres, punctuated by sequences of more intense terror. If the teaser is any indication, we're in for more of the same with Hokum.
