Disney PlusThe Princess Bride (film) study guide contains a biography of Rob Reiner, literature essays, quiz questions, major themes, characters, and a full summary and analysis. This tone is woven beautifully into The Princess Bride, which relies on telling an epic story of deceit, loss, and hardship through an easy-going lens, one that reminds the audience that it's a parody. IndieWire's Oliver Lyttelton said of Reiner's direction that "the tone [he] strikes—loose, funny, absurd, but still with actual stakes—is pretty much perfection."
The visual architect behind The Princess Bride was the late, great Adrian Biddle (Aliens, The Mummy, V for Vendetta). While Rob Reiner had the comedic vision, it was Biddle who ensured the film didn’t look like a cheap television sketch. Coming off the gritty sci-fi world of Aliens (1986), Biddle brought a grounded, textural quality to the fantasy genre.
