Shane Black is an American screenwriter, film director, and actor, known for his distinctive style of action and action comedy films. He originated the Lethal Weapon franchise, and has also written such films as The Monster Squad, The Last Boy Scout, Last Action Hero, and The Long Kiss Goodnight.He made his directorial debut with the film Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in 2005. Black went on to write and direct Iron Man 3 (2013), The Nice Guys (2016), The Predator (2018) and Play Dirty (2025).
The script of The Nice Guys is at the core of this films success. Jokes are made with a wink and a nod, and none of them go out of their way to deliver a cheap gag. Instead, the witty dialogue and use of editing and cinematography to enhance visual comedy adds a level of pacing that is rarely seen in comedies today.
