Samara Weaving stars as Grace in 'Ready or Not.' Fox Searchlight Pictures. On the surface, comedy and horror might seem incompatible, two genres separated by different tropes and opposing goals. Comedy is used to deflate tension while horror intends to heighten it. The trick, then, is how to cohesively blend the two. When done successfully, viewers are taken on an emotional rollercoaster that can often feel more engaging and more memorable than either genre alone.
