Role. Introduction to Myth, Ghost World. We are introduced to the concept of the Galaxy Quest TV show, a corny Star Trek-esque sci-fi story that’s hokey and outdated. We can see that the cast is stuck in the past. The allusion to the Omega 13 will pay off later in the film and serves as the culmination of Jason’s journey, his transformation into Captain Taggart.After pushing him away earlier in the film, he’s now enlisted as part of the crew, his dream. His knowledge of the fiction of Galaxy Quest is validated and he proves himself and his belief powers Jason to succeed.

With the original director having abandoned the production early on and a fire destroying part of the set, there were no guarantees the film was ever going to hit the big screen. It didn’t help that the production company, Dreamworks, didn’t get the film. These challenges, because everyone involved in the production, were merely obstacles to overcome. There was something about Galaxy Quest that set it apart from other projects.
