From the outset, the series is steeped in the city’s Gaudí-infused visual language, drawing heavily on the symbolism and mystique of its most famous buildings. The opening murder sets the tone with brutal confidence. A wealthy construction magnate is kidnapped, starved and dehydrated in a basement for five days, before being ceremonially suspended from La Pedrera (Casa Milà), set on fire, filmed, and broadcast.
