While Rick and Morty season 6’s Thanksgiving special isn’t perfect, the episode is an important part of the show’s history. Rick and Morty has changed a lot since the anarchic sci-fi comedy series debuted on Adult Swim in 2013.However, Rick and Morty didn’t always enjoy this level of unalloyed success. Although every season of the series succeeded with critics, there were a few outings that couldn’t quite nail Rick and Morty’s unique tone. Some episodes were too silly while others were too self-serious, resulting in uneven tonal shifts between outings.
The Lovecraftian monsters Rick and Morty face can mirror the current challenges of this generation. How does the show answer? As the viewer, I can see the relatability in both Morty and Rick, since most people today have a balance between the cynicism and optimism, and between intelligence and innocence.
