The overriding tonal consistency of The Batman for almost two and a half hours is despair and disillusionment–at least until the climax when Pattinson’s Batman suddenly (and perhaps a little jarringly) becomes a literal ray of light who will lead his city over troubled waters. Then again, we’ve seen Nolan’s overarching vision for Batman with a character’s journey that included birth, struggle, triumph, and retirement.
The Batman 2022 review. Pattinson’s brooding portrayal is a stark contrast to the often-charismatic Bruce Waynes of past films. Here, he’s a recluse, a creature of the night consumed by his obsession with justice.The film’s visual style is stunning. Reeves and cinematographer Greig Fraser bathe Gotham in perpetual twilight, casting long shadows and creating an atmosphere of oppressive dread.
