November 27, 2022.Causeway is slow and intimate at all the right moments, a pacing masterclass from Neugebauer, who rightly focuses on how fundamental changes to a routine way of life can cause a delay in anger or the repression of feeling. Neugebauer, Lawrence and Henry make for a delightful trio that riff off of one another with sincere ease. Reflective leading performances joined together by unity in isolation.
Audiences drawn to Causeway for either of these two headliners will not be disappointed with what they offer the film. However, great patience has to be afforded to Causeway’s plot and pacing, and this is where my amusement in the film dwindles. Slow, quiet, and meandering to a fault, most of Causeway is reluctant about presenting real narrative-driving drama.
