Russian Doll season 1 functioned like a video game (try a path, reset, try something different, repeat until you find the right path forward), a perfect stylistic update to theories based on the Greek pantheon.To see a show go from a character development driven first season to a plot-heavy second season was disappointing. But even disappointed, I have to say it’s so, so good. A woman with a stable career and a nice apartment battling generational trauma and irresponsibility to recover her generational wealth is an interesting story that could reach a lot of people.
Russian doll is a true, deep, dark, intelligent masterpiece. Russian dolls transcends time, morality, gender and genres. The secret to its brilliance is within the mood, because although you are witnessing the darkest moments of these characters many timelines, the story maintains a somber innate sense of humor.
